The scenes in this series of paintings have been inspired by the noble timeless english coastline, mostly in and around Devon and Cornwall.
I have very fond memories of spending time with family and friends out on the ocean or on the beautiful open beaches or sheltered hidden coves accessed by little grassy tracks or rambling sand dunes.
The south west has offered me unlimited resources to fire my imagination and coupled with a passion for the intensity of the play on colour, the ‘Sailboat’ series erupted. The feeling of freedom and affinity with the coast is what I am trying to portray. Like the ‘Field of dreams’ series there are small signs of human life but not humans in order to enhance the feeling of timelessness and how we are really, in essence just the timekeepers of our own bodies and in the shadow of the vast power of nature.
This has been one of my most prolific phases and one which is teaching me new things with every brush stroke I make.
